Product

Density and bag values are editable planning assumptions. Confirm the product label or supplier specification.

Reinforcement quantities follow your inputs, not a structural design. Base volume excludes its own waste and compaction. Trench fill does not subtract pipe displacement.

Saving a reference preserves your inputs. Apply individual values only when they match the product you will buy.

  • Density: 0.35 US tons/yd³ — unverified planning assumption; confirm for this product.
  • Bag yield: 2 ft³; bag weight: unspecified lb; confirm the selected bag product.
  • Shrinkage: 0% — entered planning allowance; no product-specific compaction rate verified.

FROM MEASUREMENTS TO AN ORDER

Plan your mulch beds

What to measure

  1. Split beds into simple shapes and measure only the area being covered.
  2. Exclude paths and spaces kept clear around stems or trunks. Enter the added mulch depth, accounting for any existing layer.

Worked example: 30 ft × 4 ft × 3 in

30 × 4 × (3 ÷ 12) ÷ 27 = 1.1111 yd³ before allowance.

5% waste · 0% shrinkage

Neat volume
1.1111 yd³
Volume with allowances
1.1667 yd³

Illustrative dimensions and allowances. Use your project specification and supplier’s product data. Quantities shown are before supplier rounding.

Included in this quantity

Added mulch volume for the measured bed area.

Measure or price separately

Removal of old material, edging, planting, transport and spreading labor.

Choose the specified product

Check the bag’s labeled volume or the bulk supplier’s product description. Wood mulch, compost and decorative stone are different materials with different density and application requirements.

Before booking the order

Confirm bulk minimums and bundle sizes. Compare full bags using the selected bag volume, and keep delivery and spreading charges separate. Leave space around stems and trunks as the planting guidance requires.
